Competition “Media sure! But secure.”: The award winners have been announced!

We congratulate the prize-winners and would like to thank all the participants for their entries into the competition. The main prizes go to media projects “It’s our web! – Das ist unser Netz! – To jest nasza siec!” (Aktion Kinder- und Jugendschutz Brandenburg e.V.), “Football meets culture – Fußball trifft Kultur” (LitCam gGmbH) and “The internet experts of the radio foxes – Die Internet-Experten der Radiofüchse” (Kinderglück e.V.). In addition, two German country prizes and three special prizes will be awarded.

The selection of the winners was done by a first-class jury (photo from left to right), this year it consisted of Björn Schreiber (Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle multimedia service provider e.V.), Martina Schwebe-Eckstein (Deutsche Telekom AG), Mechthild Appelhoff ( North Rhine-Westphalia State Media Institute), Prof. Dr. Nadia Kutscher (Vechta University ), Dr. Paul Kral (Connected Kids-Initiative T-Mobile Austria), Bianca Nawrath (moderator).

“Children and young people have to be picked up by their strengths and skills and then made into experts. This year’s winners do this in outstanding fashion by starting with children’s interests and lifestyles. They are diverse in their orientation and invite others to imitate their methods,” declared jury member Mechthild Appelhoff.

In the transnational workshop on media “It’s our web! – Das ist unser Netz! – To jest nasza siec!” German and Polish young people took on their own media use. “Football meets culture” used football-related topics to make improvements in educational opportunities and the creation of educational equality. For “The internet experts of the radio foxes” project, children make the internet “unsafe” so that they can act more securely there. The kids got to be content-editors for the “Radiofüchse” (radio foxes) website and create their own content.

Awards ceremony and the Summit for Kids
The competition award ceremony takes place on November 4th, 2016, at the “Summit for Kids” in Bonn. It’s an action-packed day for children with a focus on safe media use. Here, the winners of the main prizes also learn which place they took, 1, 2 or 3.

Country winners and special prizes
The two German country prizes go to the projects “welcome2spandau” (media competence center CIA Spandau) and “Mobile library Lab” (Mannheim city library). Due to their special design, the jury awarded special prizes to the projects “Facebookexperiment – an image goes around the world” (Nils-Holgersson elementary school, Thedinghausen) “Safer Smartphone” (Politik zum Anfassen e.V., Isernhagen policy) as well as “Like me – It’s me! Is that me?” (the youth office, Jugendamt Dortmund).
