Telekom’s Smart Digital Program
With active support from the Digital Knowledge Academy and volunteering employees Magyar Telekom, Deutsche Telekom’s subsidiary in Hungary, developed the SmartDigital Program. After having targeted children and adolescents in the past, the program now reaches out teachers and parents as well.
Founded in 2013, the program was initially designed for primary and secondary school students. Now, adults shall be taken on board as well. The organisers of the program realized that children's guidance and self-assurance in the digital space can be enhanced greatly if the adults around them participate as well.
Volunteer lecturers conduct interactive sessions for these new target groups in which they include new elements like short films. The sessions focus on topics like social networking, data fishing, cyber bullying and grooming, game addiction and many more. The goal is to educate the audience about the risks young users face when surfing the internet unattended.
The recipe for success of the program on the one hand relies heavily on the sympathetic ear the experts have for the concerns, questions and wishes of children and adolescents. On the other hand it depends on the extensive knowledge they share with teachers and parents. So far the program has reached more than 60.000 children and adolescents.
